Rehearsal for a Choreomania (working title)
2026, HZT Berlin
Rehearsal for a Choreomania (working title) is a body-based research project in the frame of the MA Solo Dance Authorship (SODA) at HZT Berlin.
I have been researching something that happened in the city of Aachen on the 24th of June, 1374. What happened is called Choreomania, also known as Tanzwut (dancing rage), Tanzpest (dancing plague), and Tanzsucht (dancing addiction). Allegedly, hundreds of people, mostly women, took to the streets and could not stop dancing, or rather, could not be stopped.
During the summer semester 2026, I conducted practice-based movement research focusing on how archival material informs my body and presented my materials in a research presentation. The next phase of my research considers autonomy, pleasure, and refusal as underestimated agents of the dancing mania.
